Virginia Beach Outdoor Activities

If you love the outdoors, there are endless possibilities of activities in Virginia Beach; everything from kayaking, surf camps, boating, hiking and camping. Alone, with friends, or with your family there is always a day of adventure awaiting. For a relaxing change from the beach, try kayaking through parts of the 121 miles of waterways amid the state parks and wildlife refuges, or along the 35 miles of coast on the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. Take a tour, or rent a kayak and explore on your own. Explore the outdoors by hiking or biking Virginia Beach's parks and national refugees. Why not make your destination a camping ground? First Landing State Park offers cabins, while False Cape has 12 different campsites where you can set up your own tent. Don't forget to watch for the beautiful birds that grace these parks with their presence. If a long hiking trip is not on your agenda, playgrounds, ball parks, and picnic areas are found throughout the parks as well.

Virginia Beach Water Sports, Fishing Tours & Boating

For an exhilarating experience, try parasailing or a high-speed water tour. Soar up to 1,200 feet above the water, viewing surfers, and sunbathers, or sites like Cape Henry Lighthouses and Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Take a ride on Rudee Rocket, a 2000 horsepower boat, along the oceanfront areas of Virginia Beach and spot the beautiful wildlife including dolphins, whales, and birds. Rather travel on your own? Rent a jet-ski and speed along the coast. And why not learn something new while on your East Coast vacation? Surf camps sponsored by companies like Billabong and Roxy, taught by champion surfers like Jason Borte, Brendan Petticrew and Wes Laine are offered during the summer months. No experience required; just bring yourself and be prepared for a good time. There are boat rentals galore- paddle boats, row boats, fishing boats, speedboats- you name it, Virginia Beach has it. Take your family out on the water to enjoy the sunny weather or bring along some fishing poles. In the Chesapeake Bay, along the coast, or offshore you are sure to get a good catch rather its tuna, kingfish, Spanish mackerel or any of the other hundreds of fish swimming these waters. Fishing charters are also available, taking passengers to the Rudee or Lynnhaven inlets for full or half day fishing fun. Virginia Beach is a fisherman's heaven due to its year-round diversity of fish. Don't forget, there is always fantastic swimming in the cool waters of one of the three beaches in Virginia Beach: Chesapeake Bay, Resort Beaches, and Sandbridge. Whatever water sport or outdoor activity catches your interest, you're sure to have a blast while in Virginia Beach.
